We love prioritizing intention and fostering a collected space where thoughtful design can support daily life in motion. Each piece of you, your family, your home considered. Every detail designed for you, your comfort, your refuge.
Rhodes Studio is an interior design studio rooted in the belief that home isn't just a place, but a refuge supporting the rhythm of everyday life. A space where mornings begin slowly, evenings settle in, and rituals unfold with intention and ease.
ABOUT US
We believe in the integrity, beauty, and function natural materials bring to a space. Nurturing a connection to the earth and embracing finishes that tell a story, evolve with every day use, and create a deep richness only time can lend is at the forefront of our ideals.
Natural finishes, embracing patina, and elevating the everyday experience is at the core of who we are.
A thoughtfully designed home is never the result of a single decision. It is the culmination of careful planning, intentional choices, and an investment that reflects the way you want to live.
Our role is to guide you through each of these decisions with clarity, helping you invest where it matters most while creating a home that feels both beautiful and deeply personal.
MEET THE FOUNDER
Home is an extension of who we are, which is why every space should support everyday life in a way that brings peace and intention. A home should create room for slow Sunday mornings and meaningful rituals, for the ordinary moments we return to each day. I believe a home is thoughtfully created, carefully collected, and good design allows us the gift of savoring the quiet magic of everyday life.
With a degree in architecture and 10 years experience in both, the architectural and interior design fields, Emily's approach is guided by a sensitivity to how spaces are experienced as well as a deep understanding of structure, proportion, and function.
Emily Rhodes
FOUNDER AND CREATIVE DIRECTOR
her work reflects a quiet understanding of how spaces are not only built, but felt.
Founded by Emily Rhodes,
We prioritize natural materials whenever possible for their authenticity, longevity, and quiet beauty. Stone, marble, plaster, linen, and unlacquered metals each carry a richness that deepens with time, developing a patina and character unique to the life lived around them. We believe a well-designed home should become more beautiful through living and this philosophy informs every specification we make. From solid hardware and natural stone countertops to high-quality plumbing fixtures, we are here to help bring clarity to finishes, so you can invest intentionally in materials chosen for their longevity and depth.
OUR PHILOSOPHY
Integrity of materials.
Your home is designed to support you long after the project is complete. We believe thoughtful design considers the way you live today while leaving room for the life still unfolding. Through intentional planning, we create space for new rituals and traditions yet to be created. We believe a well-designed home should develop the richness and character that only time can lend, growing more beautiful through everyday living. Every decision and thoughtful detail considered is what makes a home feel grounded, deeply personal, and built for a lifetime.
A home that evolves with you and for you.
When it comes to your everyday, we believe morning routines, after school homework, and cooking dinner deserve to be more streamlined. During our discovery phase we will guide you with questions and conversations to uncover what could be more efficient, what could be causing unnecessary overwhelm, and where you would like to infuse a bit more peace into your daily rhythm. With your routines informing the design, we can create a home that, not only supports, but helps you savor your daily rituals.
A home that supports your daily rituals.
Honoring existing architecture.
Every decision is made in conversation with the architecture and we believe our role is to understand a home's character and to build upon it with care, allowing each new layer to feel as though it has always belonged. Every home has a story to tell and we love taking the time to understand and listen first, so each decision feels connected to the story that was already unfolding. We believe the most meaningful homes don't feel redesigned, they feel understood.
FAQs
What exactly does an interior designer do?
An interior designer will select all of the interior finishes in your home and get to know your lifestyle and budget in order to provide you with a space that meets your aesthetic and functional needs. As part of our process we will specify cabinetry details, paint colors and sheens, countertops and type of edge details, tile sizes and pattern, how to trim the tile, select plumbing and lighting fixtures, furniture, accessories, and then organize it for you in a way that is easy to understand and gives your contractor the clarity to build it.
What’s the difference between an architect and interior designer?
An architect will design the house, whereas the interior designer makes it a home.
An architect is responsible for the overall planning of the home and will take on the responsibility of coordinating the building systems, structural, civil, and code compliance. An architect typically decides rooflines, overall site placement, and will also produce permit and official construction drawings for your home.
Whereas an interior designer will be involved in ensuring your cabinetry layout in your kitchen serves the size of your family and how much you like to cook. An interior designer will honor the original architecture of the home when reimagining the interior. We are responsible for lighting placements and styles, any interior millwork and trim, and will ensure the final touches feel like home.
What areas do you serve?
We welcome projects throughout the United States, whether local to California or across the country, each project is approached with the same level of care and consideration, with services customized to meet the needs you and the home.
What is a typical project timeline?
New Construction :
Design Process 6 - 9 months Construction Process 9 - 12 months Total Timeline 1 - 2+ years
There is a lot to consider when it comes to timelines and will heavily depend on where you are in the process already, your existing conditions, how intricate or custom your design, how fast decisions can be confirmed, number of revisions, and how extensive your scope is. Our design process can take anywhere from 2 - 6 months and that is prior to any construction. After that it depends on permitting and your contractor’s schedule.
Here are some typical timelines, so you have an idea of what to expect.
A Bathroom Renovation :
Design Process 2 months Construction Process 3 - 6 months Total Timeline 5 - 8+ months
Entire Home Renovation :

Do you handle ordering and installation?
Procurement, installation, and project management services are tailored to each project's scope and location. If procurement isn't the right fit then your contractor will coordinate with you on what they will purchase vs. what you will purchase.
What services do you offer?
We offer residential interior design services ranging from kitchen and bath renovations to full-home transformations and new construction. Every project is guided by a comprehensive design process that brings together space planning, custom millwork, material selections, lighting, furnishings, and thoughtful details to create a home that supports you and your daily rituals.
What’s your process like?
The design process is the foundation of every successful project. The smallest decisions often have the greatest impact on how a home is experienced. The feel of a cabinet pull in your hand or where your light switches are placed to blend seamlessly with the wall paneling, or the height of a shelf that makes everyday dishes effortless to reach. We believe these quiet details are what transform a house into a home that feels like the perfect sanctuary for everyday life. We take getting to know you and your everyday seriously from the start because designing a home specific to you is so much more than paint colors.
GATHER
We start out with a conversation where we discuss what you love about your space, what isn’t working anymore or if it ever did, and we get to the bottom of what you need in your new space. We love getting to know you and your lifestyle, so we can give you a space that is, of course beautiful, but also feels like a refuge and supports your everyday rituals.
SCHEMATIC
The vision begins to take shape through thoughtful space planning, early layouts, and material direction, establishing the framework for a home that feels both beautiful and deeply functional. This is when we start drawing your floor plans, elevations, and discuss cabinetry layouts.
DEVELOPMENT
Once we have your floor plan, elevations, and a space that covers all your functional needs, we will begin sourcing the finishes. Every dimension reviewed, floor thickness coordinated, transition considered, and every piece of wall moulding mathematically set, so every detail is refined before construction ever begins.
DOCUMENTATION
Once every finish, fixture, and detail has been thoughtfully selected, we turn our attention to documenting the design so it can be built exactly as intended. Thoughtful design deserves thoughtful execution and this phase is the transition between a beautiful idea and a beautifully built home.
What are your design fees?
Every home is unique, so our design fees are tailored to the scope, complexity, and level of detail involved. When you inquire, you'll receive our Investment Guide, which outlines our design process, typical project investments, and what it's like to work together.
If it feels like the right fit, we'll schedule a discovery call to learn more about your home, your goals, and how you hope to live within the space. From there, we'll prepare a personalized proposal outlining the recommended scope of work, fixed design fee, and and a payment schedule designed specifically for your project.
